When To Cease Exercising During Pregnancy

It is essential that you respect and listen to your body, especially when training and understand that every woman experiences each pregnancy differently. Do not compare your pregnancy or the things you are achieving to other people around you and if any of the following symptoms occur, cease exercising and seek the opinion of your GP and/or midwife:

 

  • Calf pain or swelling
  • Pre term labour
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Abdominal pain, especially back or pelvic
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Amniotic fluid leakage
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Dyspnoea (shortness of breath)┬ábefore exertion
  • Headache or exertion
  • Chest pain or palpitations
  • Muscle weakness
  • Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (depending on the severity)

Pre / Post Natal Exercise

First Trimester

0 to 13 weeks/1 to 3 months

Second Trimester

14 to 26 weeks/ 4 to 6 months

Third Trimester

27 to 40 weeks/ 7 to 9 months

Post Natal
